PROJECT Pam: SAPPI IDEAS THAT MATTER Award 2006

About this project

In July 2008 PIECE Studio was awarded an “Ideas That Matter” grant from Sappi Fine Paper, North America. The provisional application was to assist the HERO Family Resource Center in Hale County, Alabama. The project worked with HERO Executive Director Pam Dorr and the local Greensboro community.

PIECE Studio developed an identifier (Equals Home/Equals Community/Home Equals Community and Community Equals HERO) and this system became a series of interchangeable printed cards that had a color photograph of a community member who had benefited from HERO on the front. The house/home identifier was superimposed over the photograph and the back of the card had their personal story.

The cards focused on the power of a community and the individuals who make up the community-these individuals are community heroes.

HERO assembled these cards in whatever way they wanted to and could uses the collection to target specific organizations. PIECE Studio informed HERO that they had the flexibility to communicate different stories at the local, national and internal levels
