PROJECT Pam

About this project

In July 2008 PIECE Studio was awarded an “Ideas That Matter” grant from Sappi Fine Paper, North America. The provisional application was to assist the HERO Family Resource Center in Hale County, Alabama. The project will initially take the form of a cultural emersion where we will take a team of designers to Greensboro to meet HERO Executive Director Pam Dorr and the local community.

PIECE Studio will work at John Bielenberg’s Project M Design Lab in Greensboro. John has agreed to come to the Project M Design Lab to assist PIECE Studio. Here are some of the sketches for the grant application and we will update the content as the project develops.

We returned from HERO and then designed the final package. The idea was the creation of an identifier (Equals Home/Equals Community/Home Equals Community and Community Equals HERO) and this became the platform to develop the system. The system is a series of interchangeable cards that have a photograph on the front with the identifier added, and then the personal narrative on the backs. The cards focus on community and individuals as heroes. HERO will be able to assemble these cards in whatever collection that they need and to ever they want to communicate their story to. HERO can communicate at the local/internal level or the national/exterior level.
