BLUE+YOU Sarasota Police Department

About this project

PIECE Studio and Ringling College of Art and Design, partnered with the Sarasota Police Department to assist them in developing a strategy to positively engage with the Sarasota Community. We created an immersive experience for SPD, Design Students and Community by centering the design studio inside the SPD building. We travelled throughout the Sarasota community and took SPD along with us. We visited community events and visited the Sarasota homeless community. We received access to all areas of the SPD and the community came to many of those presentations as well as making presentations at the Design Studio.

We created a community campaign called BLUE+YOU where the BLUE represented the SPD and YOU represented the community. We redesigned the SPD website a created a film series where free movies were shown on the exterior wall of the SPD. The SPD and their families and the community came to this event as a celebration of community, acceptance, tolerance and understanding.
