Abstract Tones Newspaper 2019
About this project
PIECE Studio created a newspaper entitled TONES in 2019. The newspaper contains two sets of abstracted images from two different New York Sunday Times Newspaper articles.
One set of images was taken from the editorials of the Las Vegas Sniper that was published on Sunday, October 8, 2017. The second set of type treatments was taken from theatrical performance advertisements on Sunday, September 17, 2017.
The idea for the abstracted layouts came from experimentation of rearranging newspaper pages to come up with alternative type treatments.
The arrangement of the juxtaposed tones and type is a representation of high art and high terror, and how the media tends to cover terror as a celebration in the same way that theatre, music, art, and movies are covered. As Kurt Cobain said, here we are now, entertain us.
Design: Newspaper collage, and type, and image experiments used as the basis for the layouts used in the final project.
